Runner

The runner is in charge for the logistics of the workshop. To make sure we have enough equipment at the right time and that the location is well setup and transformed.

 The role of the runner

As a runner, you are responsible for making sure that location and equipment are in line with the process steps. In the larger project, you might also be responsible for the project finances and security questions.

You need a good understanding of the program and the tools we use.

Before the workshop you make sure that the location is suitable and well equipped, you take care of the "mise-en-place". You make sure that all the supplies, forms, pens, etc. are ready to use when they are needed. You prepare the location for the different workshop steps and ensure smooth transitions from step to step.

Especially important is to know the setup for the Illumination part. How would you like to organize the IdeaCity (signage, lighting, decoration)? Typical stations are:

  • Cinema (Cinema projection)
  • Museum (Attractive row material)
  • Library (Row material, newspapers)
  • Park (Newspapers)
  • Bar (Combinator, newspapers)

You support the minute takers by bringing them the results to be processed. Take processed results from the minute takers and prepare them for the illumination phase.

What matters

An important part of the runner is to think ahead: what will come next, what comes after this… Facilitators live in the presence, minute takers document the past, photographers capture the moment, techies live in a world of their own. And you care about the future.

If you see that something is missing you stay cool. Sharing information and exchanging information is important.

Tools and resources

Before the workshop starts, make sure that you have all that is necessary to run the workshop. You can check the supplies list in the project overview. Your Champ or another member of the organizing team is happy to give you access to the document.

Also, the program is a vital tool for you.

Tips
  • Walk through the entire workshop in your mind, ideally with another member of the organizing team and imagine what will happen when.

  • When bringing results to the minute takers make sure to put them in the "inbox".

  • Sort results based on question number, make sure that all sheets head in the same direction.

How to expand scope

You can expand scope by supporting the minute takers or the community people.

What if…

You have too much to do? Simply place items on the cycle board and talk to the facilitator of the organizing team.
