Techie

In workshops we often use technological tools (e.g. beamer, laptop, stereo, microphones, printers). The techie is responsible for everything running.

 Role of the techie

Make sure technology works beautifully during the workshop. You support the organizing team with all technical matters.

The organizing team needs access to WLAN at a very early stage.

Important: the participant's facilitator needs to be able to project and play music from his/her laptop latest 15 minutes prior to check-in.

Minute takers need to have access to WLAN. Ideally all minute takers work in one row because they need power too.

And you should be the master of printing.

Photographers and designers might want your support to upload images or videos.

What technology do we use?

For the entire workshop:

  • Fast WLAN at the location without URL blockers and multiple logins to use the Idea Machine Engine (www.brainstore.com/i)

  • Access to fast printers (A4, A3), backup printers

  • A good sound system, ideally using Chrome Audiocast via WLAN

  • Microphone in big locations with poor acoustics

  • A laptop for the participant's facilitator during the entire workshop

  • In the amassing phase we need projection in the main room, output comes from the facilitator's laptop.

  • All minute takers need a good workplace ideally in the auditorium. They need access to power and WLAN and capabilities to print.

For the illumination phase:

  • Setup the Idea Cinema projection (generally in the auditorium using the facilitator's laptop). There is a Spotify playlist if you click the project title.

  • Setup the Combinator (ideally in the bar area of the Idea City).

  • Optional: set up special lighting for the Idea City.

What matters

Keep cool. Technology rarely just works. Don't panic if things don't work. Listen and share information with the team.

Idea Machine - Tools and Resources
  • To access the Idea Machine Engine (www.brainstore.com/i) you need a BrainStore account and the Champ or a member of the organizing team must have added you to the project.

  • The Engine manual is accessible via the Engine.
Make sure you get acquainted with the process steps
Amassing, Illumination, Like, CriteriaScan, IdeaSelection and know how to access the different parts of the project.

  • Also: you should know how to print
forms for the amassing phase, newspapers and idea sheets for the illumination phase, idea and like cards for the like phase and feedback forms.

Playlists

Lounge music playlist on Spotify. Cinema Playlist for Illumination phase on Spotify.

 Tips
  • Sharing information, caring and improvising are important.

  • Setup the Idea City at an early stage.

 How to expand scope

If everything is taken care of: support other members of the organizing team.
